Canton Art Call 2019

 

The CANTON ART CALL is a production of the Juilliard Arts Center in Canton, Ohio. It is a result of their desire to call artists and the public together to promote and celebrate the visual arts. Cash prizes will be awarded in two categories: Juried and Popular Vote.

 

Contest Rules:

 

  • Three cash prizes will be awarded in each category. Prizes for each category are: one grand prize of $3,000 and two $1,000 runners up.

  • Entries must be visual in nature.

  • Applications will be accepted from March 1st through August 10th, 2019.  Deadline will not be extended.

  • Entries may be submitted by an individual or collaborative group of artists who are legal residents of the United States and are 18 years of age or older.

  • An artist or group may submit up to two entries. All entries must include a brief description, application fee, name, address, phone and email. In addition, size dimensions including weight should be included.

  • No individual hanging entry may exceed 20 lbs.

  • A digital image of each entry must be submitted at the time of the application.

  • Only original entries are eligible for consideration.

  • Three- Dimensional Entry Regulations

    • Indoor pieces must not exceed 34” in diameter and must fit through a standard door.

    • Outside pieces do not have size limitations but the artist is responsible for installation.

    • The artist is responsible for their own base, case or display furniture which must meet the specifications set by the venue. If selected, artist is responsible for coordinating installation and approval of installation with the venue.

  • Two- Dimensional Entry Regulations

    • Final installation of two- dimensional work may not exceed 4’ (48”) wide or 6’ (72”) high including the frame.

    • Entries must be ready to hang and include any necessary wire and mounting hardware.

  • Application Fee

    • A non- refundable application fee of $25 should be made payable to Juilliard Arts Center and must accompany ALL applications.

    • Applications and fees should be sent in the form of a check to: Juilliard Arts Center 600 Market Avenue North, Canton, Ohio 44702 -or- through PayPal at juilliardartscenter@yahoo.com.

    • Applications and digital images can also be sent to juilliardartscenter@yahoo.com.

   

 Voting:

 

  • CANTON ART CALL participants will be judged by Public and Juried Vote.

    • Votes may be cast either digitally by mobile app or in person by paper ballot at the 3rd Space Gallery at 600 Market Avenue North, Canton, Ohio 44702.

    • Voting will commence September 26th and end on October 18th at 5pm.

  • In the event of a tie, winner will be determined by the order in which applications were submitted.

  • In order to receive a prize, winners, or a representative for them, must be present at the Awards Ceremony on October 20th, 2019.

  • Only ONE paper or digital vote may be submitted per day during the voting period.

  • Previous grand prize winner is not eligible for the 2019 grand prize in either category but will be considered for runner up.

  • The CANTON ART CALL committee reserves the right to disqualify any votes if fraudulent behavior is suspected.

 

Additional Information:

 

  • Applications will be screened for acceptance and artists will be notified of their status and assigned venue by the week of the 12th of August.

  • Upon acceptance, artists must coordinate the delivery of their work with assigned venue.

  • Limited locations are available for large works and works that need outside installation.

  • All accepted entries will be on display for judging from September 26, 2019 through October 18, 2019.

  • All entries must abide by all applicable local zoning, building codes, fire codes, ordinances and other applicable laws and regulations.

  • The artist is responsible for ensuring that the entry does not infringe on any third party’s proprietary rights.

  • The entry must be owned fully by the artist or the collaborative group of artists.

  • The artist is responsible for transportation of the entry to and removal of the entry from the selected venue.

  • Pickup arrangements shall be coordinated with the venue owner. Work not picked up by October 29th, 2019 will be retrieved and sold with proceeds going to next year’s Canton Art Call.

  • Each artist consents to the use by Canton Art Call of information and imagery provided by artists (and/ or documented by the Canton Art Call) for the Canton Art Call promotional materials without limitation and without further compensation or consideration to artist.

  • Each artist will defend, indemnify and hold harmless Canton Art Call and it’s affiliates, agents, volunteers, building owner, venue owner and employees, from and against any and all liability, claims, suits, actions, losses and expenses, including costs and attorney fees relating to or arising, directly or indirectly, out of any kind of nature which any person or party may make against the Canton Art Call based upon or arising out of the entry, sale of the entry, or any other claim or demand relating to the Canton Art Call including any claim of infringement.

  • The Canton Art Call may disqualify any entry if it determines, in its sole discretion, that:

    (i) an artist has shown disrespect for these official rules

    (ii) an artist acts in a manner that is not fair or equitable or

    (iii) an artist acts in any disruptive manner.

  • The Canton Art Call is not responsible for inaccurate, fraudulent, incomplete, illegible, tampered with, misdirected, late or stolen entries or transmissions, any losses or damages of any kind resulting from participation in the Canton Art Call or problems of any kind whether mechanical, human, or electronic.
